Words of praise became title song of Jalwa (1987)

(Author: Alex Almeida)

Jalwa (1987) was shot in beautiful scenic location of Goa with a background of fight against the drug mafia. Where the hero Naseeruddin Shah who plays a cop from Bombay comes to investigate murder case of his friend Pankaj Kapur which is connected to the drug mafia run by a powerful person.
Films music was composed by Anand-Milind and had a lot of songs with flavor of western culture considering the films background. Pack that smack,Feeling hot hot and Lets do it (hoke rahega jalwa).
After a day’s hectic schedule the cast and crew would set out in the evening to chill out and enjoy the night life of Goa.
Once director Pankaj Parashar and Producer Kamlesh Pandey went to a night club for a chill out which belonged to famous Goan musician Remo Fernandes. But then no one knew him outside Goa and he was only stuck to Konkani music and hardly knew Hindi.
While the producer and director where chilling in the night club they saw Remo Fernandes entertaining everyone with different kinds of music and removing various sounds from his mouth and making it more entertaining.
Inspired by this act either one of them said aare yeh to Jalwa hai. Remo Fernandes caught these words and hit the keyboard and started singing Dekho Dekho Yeh hai jalwa in different tunes and with various sounds.
The film was almost completed and Kamlesh Pandey told Pankaj Parashar be it anything but he wants this song to be part of the film at any cost. Finally a situation was created in the film where Archana Puran Singh makes an entry and is seen dancing on the song in Chapora fort on the song.
The song became such a big success and turned out to be a chartbuster which is played even today at functions and Remo also took credits as music director for the title song. Which also opened doors for him in Hindi film industry.
